About Me

My name is Warren Workman. I live with my family in Moyock, NC.

From the earliest days of dial up bulliten boards (anybody remember those???) I’ve been naturally drawn to the internet. I created my first website sometime in the mid 90′s with the now late GeoCities. The site was mildly popular and soon I had friends asking me to make them sites and I later made a site while at college for an organization I was involved in. I also created a few other sites for myself.

After college I didn’t create any sites for a while. Then my daughter was born and I decided to create a site to allow my friends and family which was all around the world to keep up with what was happening with her. I guess you could say I was blogging about her before blogging was popular. Once again my friends and family were impressed by this and I was regularly asked to create similar sites for them. This quickly expanded to births, weddings, other celebrations and a couple of personal sites.

Life got hectic and once again web development went to the wayside. Then blogging became extremely popular. So what the heck I created a blog expressing my views on anything and everything; sports, politics, society, entertainment, consumer issues, etc. You name it I discussed it. This blog was very popular, but unfortunately with only a very few people. From this I learned a valuable lesson about blogging, you need to define your niche and stay within those boundries, within reason.

In 2001 I started a new hobby which really changed my life. I became an amateur baseball umpire. You may ask, “What the heck does that have to do with web development?” which is a good question. I quickly became addicted to umpiring and learning all I could about umpires and umpiring. I joined a number of online communities and was constantly searching the web for information, but was finding there wasn’t alot out there. So what did I do? I created my own.

January 1, 2008 after 6 months of planning I launched Umpire-Empire which quickly became one of, if not the, largest most visited site on the internet in its niche. The months of planning taught me a lot and was able to make the site as successful as it was. I want to take what I’ve learned and help you. Including preventing the mistakes I’ve made.

I take a common sense approach to web development and make sites which can merge what you as the owner wants with what your target audience is expecting.
